18th Headies  Awards Postponed to April 2027 in Toronto as Organisers Expand Nigeria Canada Programme.

Organisers of Nigeria’s prestigious The Headies Awards have postponed the 18th edition of the ceremony to April 10 and 11, 2027, in Toronto, Canada, moving the event from its original date of October 23, 2026.

The announcement marks a change in the awards’ schedule as organisers expand activities across Nigeria and Canada, with plans to create more opportunities for engagement within the music and creative industries.

According to an official statement published on The Headies’ website, the expanded programme will operate under the theme “Africa to the World,” bringing together music, industry engagement and business opportunities ahead of the Toronto finale.

Road to The Headies Activities to Continue

Despite the postponement of the main ceremony, organisers have confirmed that activities under the Road to The Headies initiative will continue during the period originally scheduled for the awards.

The programme is expected to include workshops, seminars and other industry engagements involving artists, nominees and stakeholders in the creative sector.

The expanded activities will culminate in the awards ceremony and the Headies Global Trade & Investment Summit in Toronto on April 10 and 11, 2027. The summit is designed to encourage connections between African businesses, investors and international partners.

The organisers said further information about venues, schedules and participation would be communicated through The Headies’ official channels.

Organisers Apologize to Guests

The Headies team acknowledged that the revised dates would affect guests who had already made travel arrangements and other commitments for the October event.

The organisers apologized for the inconvenience and expressed appreciation for the patience and continued support of affected guests.

The announcement did not indicate that the awards themselves had been cancelled. Instead, the ceremony has been rescheduled as part of a broader programme connecting Nigeria’s entertainment industry with international markets.

The Headies and African Music’s Global Reach

Established in 2006 as the Hip Hop World Awards, The Headies has grown into one of Nigeria’s major music award platforms, recognizing achievements by recording artists, producers and other entertainment professionals.

The awards have also contributed to the international visibility of Nigerian music, particularly as Afrobeats and other African music genres continue to reach audiences across different continents.

The decision to host the 18th edition in Toronto reflects the organisers’ continued international ambitions. By combining music recognition with industry engagements and investment discussions, the expanded programme seeks to strengthen connections between African creative professionals and global business opportunities.

With the ceremony now scheduled for April 10 and 11, 2027, attention will turn to the organisers’ forthcoming announcements regarding the full programme and arrangements for the Toronto event.
