Edo State Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Zubairu Dada Abubakar has said that the Ministry will partner with the Edo State Agency for Mass Education on the Edo Street School to teach youths on the streets to read and write and the dangers of drug addictions which leads to their involvement in crime.
The Commissioner who disclosed this during a Courtesy visit by the Executive Director, Edo State Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Sola Okunkpolor to his office in Benin City noted that without education the youths will not be aware of the consequences of their actions.
While commending the initiative of the Edo State Agency for Mass Education for taking education to the street, Hon. Abubakar said this will go a long way to address the problems of the youths on the streets, because there will be counselling and opportunities for skill acquisition
The Executive Director, Edo State Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Sola Okunkpolor disclosed that the familiarization visit was to seek for partnership with the Ministry to take the school to Edo street youths through the mobile education initiative.
In another development, the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Zubairu Abubakar disclosed that the Ministry is ready to partner and collaborate with the leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Campus Monitoring Committee, Edo state.
The Commissioner who disclosed this when the Association paid a courtesy visit to his office assured them that the government has put in place facilities for training with resource persons and equipment’s in the state which can be available for them and he advised the leadership of NAUS to be disciplined and focus, noting that their various requests will be channeled to the appropriate quarters for attention.
The President, Campus Monitoring Committee, Edo State, NAUS, Comrade Osahon Eseosa Destiny commended the dedication of the Commissioner to youths and students affairs, saying that they have come to solicit the support of the ministry to collaborate and partner through training and enlightenment programmes.
Also, the DOER’s Upliftment Foundation was led by the President, Rev. Lugard Ekhosuehi Michael on a courtesy call to the Commissioner who told them that the government is always ready to partner with any organization when they have a project that will be of benefit to humanity, but it will not be one hundred percent funded by the government.
The Commissioner during the meetings reiterated the fact that the youths are tired of the street and want to start leading now and not tomorrow, that is why the government is ready to partner with any organization that shows some commitment .
The DOER’S Upliftment Foundation is into training and empowerment, especially in Mechanical Fabrication for Agricultural equipment’ s. Apart from training they mentor and provide internship.
