4 Brigade Wins 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals Competition in Benin

The 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has emerged overall winner of the 2026 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition held in Benin City.

The competition, which ran from April 20 to 23, 2026, was hosted by the 4 Brigade at the Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ekehuan.


Commander of 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, said the exercise was designed to improve combat proficiency, leadership skills, teamwork, and endurance among junior soldiers. He noted that the competition also promotes unity, resilience, and knowledge-sharing within the ranks.

Balogun commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, for the confidence reposed in the brigade to host the event and for his commitment to personnel training and welfare.

In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the competition. He said the various activities had enhanced the physical and mental capacity of participants and better prepared them for operational duties.

He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve performance in their respective formations, especially in addressing current security challenges.

Adegbite also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his commitment to the development of junior non-commissioned officers, whom he described as the backbone of the Army.

Events at the competition included drill, combat swimming, map reading, weapon handling and firing, cross-country race, and obstacle crossing.

Participating formations were 4 Brigade, 12 Brigade, 22 Armoured Brigade, 32 Artillery Brigade, 42 Engineers Brigade, and 2 Division Garrison.

At the end of the competition, 4 Brigade emerged overall winner, while 12 Brigade and 2 Division Garrison placed second and third respectively.

The event was attended by heads of security agencies in Edo State and other invited guests. Highlights included obstacle crossing contests, presentation of awards, and group photographs.
