53 Suspects Arrested Over Benue, Plateau Killings – IG

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 53 suspects in connection with the recent wave of deadly attacks in Benue and Plateau states. The attacks claimed dozens of lives and left several others injured or displaced.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, Egbetokun described  massacre in Yelewata community in Benue State as a “coordinated attack of terror.” He stated that 26 suspects were arrested in connection with the Yelewata attack, 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the Plateau attacks, and another five suspects were arrested in Benue for a more recent attack.

According to Egbetokun, 47 persons were killed and 27 were injured in the Yelewata attack. The police also recovered two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles used in the attack.

The IG’s announcement comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in the country, particularly in the North-Central region. The police have been working to apprehend those responsible for the attacks and bring them to justice.53 Suspects Arrested Over Benue, Plateau Killings - IG
