Three suspected kidnappers involved in a failed attempt to abduct the wife of a Delta State House of Assembly member were killed in a gunfight with the State Police Command. The incident, which followed the attempted kidnapping on September 2, 2024, took place at Okoloba Junction, Jakpa Road, in Uvwie Local Government Area, where two policemen and a driver were also killed.
Following the attack, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, ordered heightened security measures around Warri, including roadblocks and exit point monitoring. Police operatives from the Ebrumede division, led by DPO Iwok Ndifereke, intercepted the suspects’ vehicle at a traffic stop. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects opened fire, leading to a gun battle. The attackers abandoned their vehicle and fled with injuries, leaving behind three AK-47 rifles and their operational vehicle.
Determined to capture the suspects, the police continued their pursuit. On October 3, 2024, officers tracked them to a hideout in Agbarho. Another gunfight ensued, during which three suspects were shot and later died from their injuries. A fourth AK-47 rifle was recovered. The search for the remaining gang members is ongoing.
