A School Suspended a 10-Year-Old Boy Who Grabbed the Breast of a Counselor

At Holly Hill School in Volusia County, Florida, a 10-year-old boy was suspended after he was accused of groping the school’s female counselor during a hug.

According to the school worker’s report to the police, the student “cupped her left breast in a disrespectful way,” and the worker “had to forcibly remove his hand.”

NBC reports that on October 24, when she visited his fourth-grade classroom to talk about something, the boy instead reached for a hug, which could lead to a charge of violation battery.

Although the boy’s lawyers delivered the suspension letter to the boy’s grandmother and legal guardian, the boy was placed on a 10-day suspension.

The counselor “turned sideways to give a side hug,” and the child “put one arm around her shoulder and with the other hand,” according to the police report.

The boy claimed that his grandmother held his hand, but the boy’s grandmother denied the claim, saying that it was the female teachers who did so.

My grandson told me that during the embrace, she grabbed his hand and held it up, and he wasn’t sure why she did it. Grandma was told that her grandson “said she let his hand go, and he walked back to his seat, and then he began to talk to other students.”

The grandma denied responsibility and suggested that what happened might have been an accident.

Both parties’ identities were concealed because of Florida’s Marsy’s Law, which grants victims of alleged crimes anonymity if they report the crime to authorities and does not disclose the identities of minors who commit crimes to the public.

On Wednesday, police were called to the school due to an alleged battery; the child has not yet been formally charged with the misdemeanor battery for which they were called.
