Abducted Edo Minor Seminarians Spend 35 Days in Captivity

Two minor seminarians abducted from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivhianokpodi-Agenebode, Edo State, have now spent 35 days in captivity. A disturbing viral video shows the boys in obvious distress, clutching what appears to be a human skull, and surrounded by armed men suspected to be their captors.

The seminarians were among three boys seized on 10, 2025, when gunmen attacked the seminary, killing a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Mr. Christopher Aweneghieme, who was on guard duty. One of the boys, who sustained injuries, was freed on July 18, 2025, while the remaining two have remained in the hands of the kidnappers.

The Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gabriel Dunia, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, and all security agencies to “do the needful” in securing the release of the boys and restoring safety in Edo North. He expressed frustration and helplessness over the growing insecurity in the region.Abducted Edo Minor Seminarians Spend 35 Days in Captivity

The Bishop’s plea highlights the need for urgent action to address the security challenges in Edo State and ensure the safe release of the abducted seminarians. The incident has sparked widespread concern and prayers from the church community, with many calling for increased efforts to protect lives and property in the region.
