ABSU Don comot Prof Nnamdi Nwaeze Suspension After ASUU beg.
ABIA, Nigeria Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), don provisionally lift the suspension wey dem give Professor Nnamdi Nwaeze, after Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch for ABSU make plea for am.
The university make the decision for letter wey dem date September 3, 2026, and Acting Registrar, Dr Joy Nwankwo, sign am. The letter talk say Nwaeze suspension don lift with immediate effect after intervention from ASUU ABSU.
But the university don make am clear say lifting the suspension no mean say the whole disciplinary matter don finish. The decision na without prejudice to investigative panel wey university don already set up to look into the matter surrounding Nwaeze suspension. The university still dey wait for the panel final report.
Prof Nwaeze, wey be lecturer for Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, get suspension for August after some social media posts wey e make about lecturers’ welfare and payment.
For the posts, Nwaeze raise concerns about lecturers’ salaries, unpaid entitlements and the financial difficulties wey academic staff dey face. The university reportedly see the posts as things wey fit affect the interest of the institution and as statements wey no favour the Visitor of the university.
The matter later cause serious disagreement between university management and ASUU ABSU. The union reject the suspension and insist say the university suppose follow the proper disciplinary procedure wey the institution rules provide.
ASUU ABSU also link the matter to the industrial action wey lecturers begin. The union initially say dem no go end the strike until university management recall Nwaeze.
Later, ASUU ABSU suspend the strike and direct lecturers to return to their academic duties. The union, however, give university management deadline of September 4 to recall Nwaeze, warning say failure to do so fit make the union resume the strike.
With this latest decision, the immediate tension between university management and ASUU ABSU don reduce. But the whole matter never completely finish because the investigative panel still need submit its final report.
ASUU ABSU Chairman, Professor Chidi Mba, confirm the development but say the union go continue to handle the matter through administrative process. E no disclose further details about the process.
The development also come as part of efforts to resolve the wider labour issues wey cause the disagreement for ABSU. Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, earlier acknowledge say the strike fit have been avoided and apologize for administrative delays wey contribute to the disruption.
