Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Urges NYSC Members to Embrace Entrepreneurship Over White Collar Jobs

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has encouraged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to shift their focus from the increasingly competitive search for white collar jobs and instead embrace entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-employment as sustainable pathways to economic success.

The governor delivered the message while addressing corps members during an official engagement in Akwa Ibom State, where he emphasized that Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape requires young graduates to develop practical skills, build businesses, and create employment opportunities rather than relying solely on government or corporate jobs.

Governor Eno noted that entrepreneurship has become a critical driver of economic growth, wealth creation, and job generation. He urged the corps members to take advantage of vocational training, digital innovation, agriculture, and other enterprise opportunities available through government and private sector initiatives. According to him, graduates who cultivate entrepreneurial skills are better positioned to achieve financial independence while contributing to national development.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through programmes designed to support small businesses, skills acquisition, and access to funding for young entrepreneurs. The governor stressed that investing in human capital remains central to Akwa Ibom’s development agenda and encouraged the corps members to maximize the opportunities provided during their service year.

The remarks reflect growing calls by policymakers and economic experts for Nigerian youths to diversify their career aspirations amid high unemployment and increasing demand for entrepreneurial solutions. Across the country, governments and development institutions continue to promote skills acquisition and business development as practical responses to youth unemployment and economic challenges.

Governor Eno’s advice aligns with broader national conversations on empowering young Nigerians to become job creators, strengthen local economies, and drive inclusive growth through innovation and enterprise.
