Anglican Bishop Raises Alarm Over Nigeria’s Economic Hardship, Insecurity, Calls for Urgent Government Action.
An Anglican bishop has expressed grave concern over Nigeria’s deepening economic hardship and persistent insecurity, urging the Federal Government to implement decisive measures to ease the burden on citizens and restore public confidence.
Speaking during a church engagement, the bishop lamented the rising cost of living, worsening poverty, unemployment, and the continued wave of violent attacks affecting communities across the country. He warned that the combined impact of economic challenges and insecurity is placing immense pressure on millions of Nigerians, particularly vulnerable households struggling to meet basic needs.
The cleric stressed that while citizens continue to demonstrate resilience, meaningful interventions are urgently needed to stabilize the economy, create employment opportunities, strengthen social welfare programmes, and improve national security. He called on political leaders to prioritize policies that directly address inflation, food insecurity, and the protection of lives and property.
The bishop also encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope despite prevailing difficulties, urging citizens to remain united, peaceful, and committed to nation-building. He emphasized that government, religious institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector all have important roles to play in addressing the country’s complex socio economic challenges.
Nigeria has faced sustained economic pressure in recent years, driven by high inflation, rising food prices, foreign exchange volatility, and security concerns in several regions. Religious leaders across different denominations have increasingly used public platforms to call for reforms aimed at improving governance, strengthening security, and delivering tangible economic relief to citizens.
Analysts note that continued dialogue between government officials, faith based organizations, and other stakeholders could contribute to identifying practical solutions to the country’s pressing challenges while promoting social cohesion and national development.
