APC Calls for Greater Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, Distributes Relief Materials in Abuja”

The governing political party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has renewed calls for stronger support, inclusion, and empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), while distributing relief materials to vulnerable individuals in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The intervention, led by the party’s disability support structures, highlighted the need for governments, private institutions, and development partners to intensify efforts aimed at improving the welfare and socio economic participation of PWDs across Nigeria. Party representatives emphasized that persons living with disabilities should not be excluded from opportunities in education, healthcare, employment, political participation, and social protection programmes.

During the outreach programme, relief materials were distributed to beneficiaries as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship affecting many households. APC officials stated that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote social inclusion and ensure that vulnerable groups receive the support necessary to improve their living conditions.

Stakeholders at the event also stressed the importance of implementing existing disability-related laws and policies, including measures that guarantee accessibility, equal opportunities, and protection from discrimination. They noted that while progress has been made in advancing disability rights in Nigeria, significant gaps remain in access to public infrastructure, employment opportunities, and essential services.

Advocates have consistently called for stronger enforcement of disability legislation and increased investment in programmes that empower PWDs economically and socially. Observers say initiatives that combine immediate humanitarian assistance with long term inclusion strategies could help strengthen the participation of persons with disabilities in national development.

The APC’s latest intervention comes amid growing conversations around social welfare, inclusive governance, and the protection of vulnerable populations in Nigeria, with stakeholders urging sustained collaboration between government institutions, civil society organisations, and the private sector to address the challenges facing PWDs.
