The Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri, on behalf of the host Local Government, joined the Edo State Government and other key stakeholders to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Oba Ovonramen Square, Ring Road, Benin City.
The solemn ceremony, organized by the Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, through the Ministry of Defence on behalf of the Federal Government, featured a ceremonial parade by security agencies, wreath-laying at the cenotaph, and a 21-gun salute in honour of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo; the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Agbebaku; the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council and host, Hon. Engr. Gabriel Iduseri; the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Charity Amayaenvbo; as well as other top government officials.
Also in attendance were representatives of the Nigeria Legion, representatives of the Oba of Benin, other traditional institutions, widows of fallen heroes, and key stakeholders across the state.
The high point of the ceremony was the wreath-laying, led by His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, alongside widows of the fallen heroes, led by Mrs. Sherifat Umar, in a touching tribute to the nation’s brave servicemen and women.
The event concluded with the symbolic release of pigeons, signifying peace and unity, as the nation renewed its collective commitment to honouring fallen heroes and supporting veterans and their families.
