ASUU Declares Two-Week Warning Strike Over Unresolved Demands

 

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has announced a two-week warning strike starting October 13, 2025, due to the federal government’s failure to meet their demands. ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, stated that the action became necessary after a 14-day ultimatum lapsed without significant progress.

The federal government had renewed its commitment to resolving the issues through dialogue, but ASUU accused the government of sabotage, saying they declined a physical meeting to discuss the proposals. The government insists that the door to dialogue remains open.

The strike has thrown thousands of university students into confusion, reviving memories of previous academic shutdowns. Critics argue that ASUU’s refusal to engage reveals a pattern of confrontation rather than collaboration.

The Congress of University Academics doesn’t support the strike, saying they have no issue with the government.
