Bandits killed four in Zamfara attack; government closes market

Four people have reportedly been killed in a bandit attack in Maru, Maru Local Government Area of ​​Zamfara State.

Mohammed Bawa, a local resident of the town, told The Punch that the Emir of Mar, Abubakar Maigari, managed to escape when the bandits entered the palace, but one of his guards killed him on the spot. It is said that other people were also injured.

According to Bawa, the chief’s vehicle was also damaged by several shells.

He explained that the bandits also returned to the city on Thursday in search of the chief and when the chief was no longer in sight, he went from house to house and killed four people there.

Bawa said, “The bandits entered the chief’s palace and fired indiscriminately to kill him, but he fled.”

“They killed one of the palace guards and damaged all the vehicles in the area.

“The bandits also returned to the city last night, and when the chief was no longer in sight, they began to attack the houses.

“In accordance with the Islamic injunctions, their funeral prayers were offered this Friday.”

Meanwhile, the state government has announced that the Today, Friday, the city announced the closure of the popular Maru market over concerns that bandits may attack people.

National Intelligence Commissioner Munir Haidara said in his statement: “Due to the security situation in Maru town, the state government has closed the Maru market until the security situation improves.

“Governor Dauda Lawal expresses his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the robbery attack last Thursday night.”
