Meet Jamaica Gospel Artiste Vladimir Webb(a.k.a Rushane) who Obaland Magazine turns the spotlight on recently he spoke about how an active Basketball game left him with a severe injury that led him to Music and more with Chindinma Tijani.
Let’s meet you?
My name is Vladimir Webb, but I usually go by Rushane. I’m 33 years old and I currently live in Canada. I’m originally from Kingston Jamaica, where I stayed until I was 8 years old. I love basketball, music, and reading. I’m also a Christian man who lives for Christ and would like nothing more than to see people give their lives to Him.
Apart from Music what else are you into?
I actually like to do a variety of things. Playing basketball, making music, reading, going for walks, studying various subjects, and most importantly reading the Word of God.
What drew you to the music industry?
Well, I did not know I had musical talent until December 2019. I suffered a severe injury to my left knee while playing Basketball. The injury required surgery which led to me staying at home on bed rest. I’m not too sure what prompted me, but while at home I decided to listen to an instrumental on YouTube then began to Rap about Jesus. I recorded myself using my iPhone and listened to the recording, I was surprised when it sounded decent after listening to it and then decided to share it with some friends. They all agreed it sounded good and that is how I got started in the music industry.
Who are you inspired by?
I get inspiration from life’s situations. I Rap about real-life issues while adding lessons I learned from the Bible. Great Singers, Artists & Musicians inspire me because I aspire to learn the little intricacies that make them so great.
Please explain your creative process?
My creative process usually begins with me listening to a beat I like. Then I proceed to Rap about whatever it is that comes to mind and see if it flows well with the instrumental. When I find a subject matter that sounds good on the beat, then I then proceed to write the entire song. That is my creative process in a nutshell.
What is an average day like for you?
An average day for me consists of running errands and doing chores. In addition to this, I make the time to create Facebook and Instagram posts. I also work on my music and read during my spare time.
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
There are no hidden meanings in my music because I try to make the message as clear as possible so others can understand what it is that I am trying to say.
Do you collaborate with others?
I have not collaborated with anyone yet, but I would love to in the future.
What is that process?
I still have not experienced doing a collaboration with someone.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans?
I usually get DMs on Instagram and messages through Facebook messenger. Depending on the message I usually answer, if it is appropriate or I don’t if it’s not. I like interacting with people that message me because you never know who you’ll meet. I would consider myself a nice guy as well and I’m always that way with people that sends me a message on Facebook or dm’s me.
What is your favorite part about this line of work?
My favorite part of this line of work is completing a song and listening to it after it has been mixed and mastered properly. It gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Your least favorite? Why?
My least favorite is when I record something that I think sounds good and it comes out sounding like the opposite of what you initially thought. It’s no fun when you think you’ve done good work but in reality, it didn’t translate.
Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
I have never performed live before.
Tell me about your favorite performance venue?
None as yet. I have never performed live.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
For someone wanting to follow in my footsteps, I would say to choose Christ first and foremost because, without the knowledge of his Word, I would not be the person that I am today. Second, I would say do not be afraid to express yourself and experiment to discover what gifts and talents you have inside of you. Last but not least, go after your dreams full force and never give up on yourself.
