Bauchi Police Arrest Two Suspects in Crackdown on Sara Suka Thuggery and Public Disturbance.
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate incidents involving alleged thuggery and public disturbance as security operatives intensify efforts to curb violent activities across the state.
The arrests followed incidents reported on Sunday, October 11, 2026, in different parts of Bauchi metropolis, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.
In the first incident, a group of suspected Sara Suka youths reportedly invaded the Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur areas of Bauchi at approximately 9:15 p.m., causing panic among residents.
Habib said a patrol team attached to the D Division in Dutsen Tanshi, working alongside members of the Yan Committee, responded to the report and dispersed the group, preventing further deterioration of public order.
However, a member of the community based security group sustained injuries while assisting efforts to restore calm. The police said the injured individual was receiving medical attention and was in stable condition.
One suspect was arrested at the scene, while other members of the group reportedly fled. The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend those who escaped.
In a related development, police arrested a 25 year old man identified as Abubakar Adamu Aliyu, popularly known as Zadous, over an alleged attempt to attack a Peace Corps personnel in the Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi.
According to the police, officers attached to the A Division in Township responded after receiving information at about 6:30 p.m. on October 11 that suspected thugs armed with dangerous weapons had gathered at the residence of the Peace Corps personnel.
The command alleged that the suspect had previously been charged to court over suspected thuggery and regained his freedom the week before the latest incident.
Police further alleged that the incident was connected to a possible revenge attempt because the Peace Corps personnel had reportedly reported the suspect’s activities to law enforcement authorities about seven months earlier.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. The command said he would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers involved in the operations and acknowledged the support of community based security groups.
He reiterated the command’s position against thuggery, public disturbances and Sara Suka activities, adding that patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations would continue across the state.
The commissioner also urged parents, guardians and community leaders to discourage young people from criminal activities and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent violence.
The arrests come amid continuing efforts by security authorities to address youth-related violence and maintain public safety in Bauchi. The outcome of the investigations and any subsequent court proceedings will determine the legal status of the suspects.
