Social media personality Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, was removed from a KLM flight headed to Amsterdam and detained by immigration officers late Thursday night while attempting to leave the country.
Bobrisky shared details of the incident on Instagram, telling followers that he sustained injuries during a confrontation with the officers. He alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was behind his detention, posting, “Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
This incident follows a series of controversies for the popular cross-dresser. On October 22, Bobrisky was reportedly intercepted at the Sème border while allegedly attempting to exit the country. His legal troubles began in April 2024 when he received a six-month prison sentence from the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse. Though initially sent to Kirikiri Prison, reports suggested he spent only three weeks there before being discreetly moved to a private location.
Speculation quickly arose around his early release, with allegations that a bribe of ₦15 million was paid to officials to secure his transfer and preferential treatment. Tensions heightened further in late September when social media influencer VeryDarkMan leaked an audio recording purportedly of Bobrisky. In it, Bobrisky allegedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him during his imprisonment, requesting ₦10 million to obtain a presidential pardon.
Falana and Falz responded on October 16, issuing a cease-and-desist letter demanding a retraction and apology for what they called defamatory statements. Bobrisky denied making these claims, attributing responsibility for the leaked content to VeryDarkMan and insisting he had no part in the accusations against the Falanas.
