Police in Rivers State successfully rescued a businessman, Julius Madabuchi, who was abducted by a four-man gang at a filling station in Oyigbo Local Government Area. The operation occurred after a distress call alerted authorities to the incident, where the kidnappers stormed the location in a black Toyota car and fired indiscriminately.
Responding swiftly, officers engaged the kidnappers in a high-speed chase. The suspects abandoned the victim and their vehicle during a gunfire exchange. The businessman was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family. The abandoned vehicle was also recovered.
The following day, police arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Gabriel Morris, during a covert operation in Oyigbo. The suspect confessed to being part of a syndicate involved in criminal activities in the area. Items recovered included a locally made pistol and a stash of suspected Indian hemp.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of the gang while investigations continue. This operation highlights the commitment to combating kidnapping and other crimes in the region.
