According to a statement from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire that destroyed makeshift structures in the Ikate Elegushi area of Lekki, Lagos State, was triggered by 62 camp gases.
The fire engulfed approximately two hectares of land and was eventually put out by firefighters. One person sustained serious injuries and was treated by the Lagos State ambulance service. The fire stations in Oniru and Lekki Phase II responded to the incident.
The cause of the fire was attributed to negligence. The fire service is currently conducting an enumeration of the property that was destroyed, which includes makeshift structures and household contents.
