Chief Dan Osi Orbih: Honouring a Remarkable Life and an Enduring Legacy

Chief Daniel Osikheme Orbih, widely known as Chief Dan Osi Orbih, leaves behind a legacy shaped by political leadership, business enterprise, philanthropy and service to humanity. His death on August 31, 2026, at the age of 64, marked the loss of a prominent figure in Edo State politics and a man whose influence extended beyond party affiliations.

Born on October 27, 1961, Orbih grew up in a family with strong roots in community life and public service. He attended Our Lady of Fatima Boys Grammar School in Auchi before proceeding to the University of Benin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. After completing his National Youth Service Corps programme, he became involved in his family’s hospitality business, building on a foundation that combined entrepreneurship with community engagement.

His political journey included leadership roles in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including serving as chairman of the party in Edo State and national vice-chairman for the South-South zone. He also served as a deputy governorship candidate under the All Peoples Party between 1998 and 1999 and held appointments in public institutions, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s group board. These positions placed him within important political and administrative developments in Edo State and the wider Nigerian federation.

Beyond formal positions, Orbih was remembered for his generosity and practical support for individuals and communities. His memorial biography records assistance to young people, women and others through start-up capital, equipment and other forms of support intended to improve livelihoods. Tributes from friends, relatives and political associates have also described him as a mentor, benefactor and dependable presence during difficult moments.

His traditional titles, conferred by communities in different parts of Nigeria, reflected the recognition he received for his relationships and service. Yet his legacy cannot be measured by titles or political influence alone. It also rests on the opportunities he helped create, the relationships he sustained and the memories preserved by those who knew him personally.

As Obaland Magazine honours Chief Dan Osi Orbih, his life offers an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities that accompany leadership and the importance of translating influence into tangible benefits for others. His passing closes a chapter in Edo State’s political history, but the stories of his public life and personal generosity remain part of the record of those he touched.

Remembering Chief Dan Osi Orbih, the Edo State political leader and businessman whose legacy includes public service, philanthropy and community development.
