The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, on Saturday hosted a special Sallah luncheon for troops of the Forward Operations Base (FOB) Sobe in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State to mark Eid al-Fitr.
Addressing the troops, the COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to enhancing troop welfare and strengthening inter-agency collaboration through morale-boosting initiatives. He urged personnel to remain steadfast in defending peace, unity, and national sovereignty.
Represented by the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ahmed Balogun, the COAS commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism despite operating in challenging conditions.
“They serve in difficult and often demanding environments, far from the comfort of their homes, yet remain steadfast in loyalty and professionalism. Their endurance, sacrifice, and courage represent the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier,” he said, while offering prayers for their safety and successful operations.
He also lauded the collaboration among sister services and other security and intelligence agencies, describing it as critical to sustaining operational success and national stability.
The COAS further conveyed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support, leadership, and commitment to the welfare and effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
Earlier, the Commander, FOB Sobe, Stanley Agboro, described the Sallah luncheon as a symbolic annual event aimed at boosting troop morale, honouring fallen heroes, and strengthening camaraderie within the military.
He appreciated the presence of the Brigade Commander and other dignitaries, including representatives of the Owan West Local Government and traditional leadership, as well as heads of security agencies in the area.
Highlights of the event included a luncheon, cultural dance performances, comedy presentations, and morale-boosting songs by the troops.
