The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of the Maiduguri Area Command on Monday sentenced one Sadiq Mustapha to one year in prison for land fraud.
Mustafa was found guilty of defrauding Yawdi Zalma of the equivalent of 3.9 million quotas after Yawdi Zalma paid for the purchase of real estate allegedly belonging to Mustafa.
This property is located in Ponpomari Industrial Layout, Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
Mr Mustaoha did not hand over the land to the buyer and did not return the money, the report said.
The anti-corruption agency made this known on Wednesday in a tweet posted under the username of X (formerly Twitter).
During cross-examination by Justice Umar Fadau of the Borno State High Court, Mustapha pleaded guilty to a single charge bordering on fraud in the said amount.
Prosecutor A.I Aroga requested the court to consider his plea and convict the accused and sentence him accordingly.
In the judgment, Fadau sentenced the defendant to one year in prison with an option of fine of N200,000.His
complaint states: Within the judicial branch of this Honorable Court, you fraudulently induced Yaudi Zalma to hand over to you the sum of 3.9 million naira, or $3,900,000.00, on the pretext that the amount amounted to payment for the purchase of a property. ” This is covered by right of use No. BO/2065/16 of Plot No. 7 of his BOTP/64 of Ponpomari Industrial Layout, Maiduguri City and you claim to be the owner and thereby Section 320 of the Act committed an offense in violation of subparagraph (a); Criminal law. Under Section 102 of the Borno State Act, punishable under Section 323 of the same Act. ”
