The recurring cult clashes in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State have claimed another life, leaving residents in a state of fear and uncertainty.
The latest incident occurred on Saturday night, opposite a fuel station in the Camp area, where a yet-to-be-identified person was killed in a renewed cult clash.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim was attacked while riding on a motorcycle in the area. Armed men, allegedly members of the Eiye cult group, attacked the victim in a combat manner, shooting him dead and leaving him in a pool of his blood.
A community source, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the victim was suspected to be a member of the Aye cult group, which has been involved in a long-standing rivalry with the Eiye group. The source stated that the attack was a retaliatory move by the Eiye group, following a previous clash between the two groups.
The incident has raised concerns about the escalating violence and lawlessness in the area, which has been plagued by cult clashes in recent weeks. On March 18, clashes between the Eiye and Aye groups resulted in the deaths of at least four people, with multiple eyewitnesses reporting attacks and reprisals targeting individual members.
The Ogun State Police Command has been working to restore calm in the area, with a senior police officer confirming the attack to our correspondent. However, efforts to get a reaction from the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful.

The recurring cult clashes in Ogun State have raised concerns about the need for increased security measures and community engagement to address the root causes of the violence. The state government and law enforcement agencies must work together to find a lasting solution to the cult clashes and ensure the safety and security of residents in the affected areas.
