Customs intercepts endangered lion, patas monkeys at Seme Border

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has FCT command, Seme Border, intercepted a lion cub and two patas monkeys being transported in a vehicle. The animals were being taken to the Benin Republic, violating national and international wildlife protection laws.

Two suspects, Mathew Kofi and Nasiru Usman Gwandu, were arrested and detained for further investigation. The animals were handed over to the Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative for expert care and safety.Customs intercepts endangered lion, patas monkeys at Seme Border

Comptroller Adewale Adenuga, Customs Area Controller, reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to enforcing wildlife protection and environmental conservation laws, collaborating with relevant agencies to combat the illegal trade in endangered species.
