Ade Olowopopo has brought his sons, Kunle and Mayowa, to court, citing allegations of assaulting their sister, Bisi, and unauthorized possession of his properties in Lakwe Lekki, Lagos State.Dad Takes Legal Action Against Sons, Alleging Assault and Theft

The Olowopopos faced arraignment on Monday before Magistrate O. M. Ajayi at the Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court on charges related to breach of peace, assault, breaking, stealing, and threat to life.

According to the prosecutor, Paul Ugorji, the alleged incidents occurred in 2019 during the complainant’s absence from the country. The defendants were accused of breaking into their father’s compound, assaulting their elder sister, and making off with a Toyota 4 Runner Jeep valued at N7m and a block moulding machine without authorization.

In court, it was revealed that the sons belonged to Olowopopo’s second wife, leading to a family feud arising from misunderstandings, particularly regarding the paternity of the boys.

Ugorji specified that the charges contravened Sections 411, 172, 287, 56, 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The charges included conspiracy to commit assault, stealing, breaking and entry, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The defendants pleaded guilty, and after their plea, Magistrate Ajayi granted them bail at N40,000 with one responsible surety. Despite this, she advised the family to settle the case amicably.

The case is adjourned until December 12, 2023, for trial.
