David Beckham Becomes Britain’s First Billionaire Sportsman as UK Rich List Reveals Sporting Fortunes”

Former England captain David Beckham has officially become Britain’s first billionaire sportsman, according to the 2026 edition of the Sunday Times Rich List, marking a historic milestone in global sports business and celebrity wealth.

The latest rankings estimate the combined fortune of Beckham and his wife, fashion entrepreneur and former Spice Girls star Victoria Beckham at approximately £1.185 billion ($1.58 billion). The achievement cements Beckham’s transformation from football icon to one of the world’s most commercially successful athletes.

The 51 year old former Manchester United and England national football team star now ranks among the United Kingdom’s wealthiest sporting figures, trailing only the family of former Formula One executive Bernie Ecclestone, whose fortune is reportedly valued at £2 billion.

Beckham’s financial rise has been driven by a combination of football investments, brand endorsements, and global business ventures. Since retiring from professional football in 2013, he has expanded his commercial empire significantly, notably through his co-ownership of Inter Miami CF, currently regarded as Major League Soccer’s most valuable franchise with an estimated valuation exceeding £1 billion.

Beyond football ownership, Beckham maintains lucrative partnerships with global brands including Adidas and Hugo Boss, reinforcing his long-standing reputation as one of the most marketable athletes in modern sports history.

During his playing career, Beckham won multiple Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League with Manchester United before featuring for elite clubs such as Real Madrid CF, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain F.C.. He also captained England and became one of football’s most recognizable global ambassadors.

Victoria Beckham’s contribution to the couple’s fortune has largely come through the success of her luxury fashion business and entertainment career. After rising to international fame with the pop group Spice Girls, she successfully transitioned into fashion entrepreneurship, building an internationally recognized brand.

The Sunday Times Rich List also highlighted the growing wealth of other major British sports figures. Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton ranked fifth with an estimated fortune of £435 million, while reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy placed seventh with a valuation of £325 million.

Heavyweight boxing stars Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury also featured prominently, with fortunes estimated at £240 million and £162 million respectively.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane and retired tennis legend Andy Murray were jointly ranked with estimated fortunes of £110 million each.

The report additionally noted financial shifts among sports-linked business moguls. Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United and chairman of petrochemical giant INEOS, experienced a significant decline in wealth. His fortune reportedly dropped by £1.85 billion to £15.194 billion amid rising debt pressures and declining revenues within the company.

Elsewhere, veteran sports promoters Barry Hearn and Eddie Hearn joined Britain’s billionaire ranks with a combined estimated wealth of £1.035 billion through the continued expansion of Matchroom Sport, a major force in boxing, darts, and snooker promotion.

Beckham’s billionaire milestone reflects the evolving economics of modern sports, where elite athletes increasingly build global business empires extending far beyond competition arenas. Analysts say his achievement underscores how sports branding, media influence, and strategic investments have reshaped wealth creation globally.
