Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has announced that she has forgiven a TikTok content creator who falsely alleged she was HIV positive.
The controversy began in July when the TikToker, Olaoluwa Segun, listed Amusa among five Nigerian actors he claimed were living with HIV. Amusa promptly debunked the allegation, clarifying that she had previously revealed her HIV-negative status in a 2025 post to encourage fans to get tested.
Initially, Amusa threatened to take legal action against Olaoluwa, but she has since forgiven him due to his recent loss of his mother, her interaction with his relatives, and discovering that he was only 27 years old. In a video shared on Instagram, Amusa explained that she decided to pardon Olaoluwa after considering these factors. She also posted a clip of Olaoluwa apologizing, saying, “I want to apologise to her fans, I’m very sorry about that. Now we’re friends.”
Olaoluwa shared his experience of spending two days in police custody at Yaba Panti station over the matter. He expressed gratitude towards Amusa for forgiving him, stating that if she hadn’t changed her mind, he would have been detained for a longer period. “I spent two days locked up in Yaba Panti. Aside from losing my mum, that was the worst experience of my life,” he said
Amusa’s decision to forgive Olaoluwa has been met with appreciation from fans and serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and understanding. As Amusa noted in her caption, “To err is human, to forgive is divine.”
