The Edo State Police Command has affirmed that the dismissal of Inspector Edith Uduma was justified, following an investigation into her alleged actions concerning Sgt. Abraham, who has also been dismissed.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, Inspector Uduma allegedly used the incident involving Sgt. Abraham, who was accused of raping a suspect, to attempt extortion. Instead of reporting the matter to the appropriate authorities, she reportedly enlisted the help of her husband, Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed, to demand one million naira from Abraham in exchange for concealing the incident.
When Sgt. Abraham refused to pay the full amount and offered 45,000 naira instead, Inspector Uduma and her husband reported him to the Divisional Police Officer and later shared a video online to expose the case.
The ensuing investigation led to Sgt. Abraham’s dismissal and Inspector Uduma’s removal from the force. Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed faced disciplinary action as well, with his rank reduced to Sergeant due to his involvement in the attempted cover-up.
The Police Command emphasized that any officer found engaging in corrupt activities or obstructing justice will face appropriate disciplinary measures, and anyone dissatisfied with the decision has the right to appeal.
