Early hours on Monday, a devastating fire broke out at the Obasanjo Trailer Park in Ogere, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway axis of Ogun State. The fire, which started around 12am, resulted in the destruction of one tanker and several makeshift shops within the park.
According to reports from our correspondent, who visited the scene on Sunday, the fire originated from one of the shops before spreading to engulf the truck that was undergoing repairs at the park. Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted the harrowing experience, stating that the fire erupted suddenly, causing panic among the occupants of the park.
Musa, an eyewitness, shared his account of the incident, saying, “The fire started about 12am when we were already sleeping. I just heard a loud blast, and before we realized what was happening, there was a fire outbreak. People around used buckets to fetch water from the gutter to quench the fire because there were no firefighters nearby.”
Efforts to bring the fire under control were mainly carried out by the occupants of the park, who worked together to extinguish the flames. The absence of nearby firefighting services meant that individuals had to rely on available resources, such as buckets and water from gutters, to combat the fire.
