Ebonyi Man Arraigned for Allegedly Killing Mother Over Refusal to Bathe Him

A 30-year-old man, Oforbuike Damian, has been arraigned and remanded in a correctional facility in Ebonyi State for allegedly killing his mother, Onyema, over a dispute. The incident occurred on March 19, 2026, at Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of the state, where Damian allegedly stabbed his mother to death.

According to reports, the altercation was linked to the mother’s alleged refusal to perform a spiritual bath for Damian and to open a barbing salon for his brother. After the incident, Damian fled the community but was later apprehended by villagers and handed over to the police

The presiding Magistrate, Agnma Chinedu Agnma, ordered that Damian be remanded in a correctional centre and directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to take over the case, noting that the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction to try the matter. The case was adjourned to April 9, 2026, for further proceedings
