The Edo State Government has commenced a four-day capacity-building workshop for education officials and stakeholders on the implementation of the Teachers Management Information System (TMIS) a digital platform designed to transform educational administration across the state.

The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Education in Benin City, is facilitated by BBGNSURF Technologies Ltd in collaboration with UNICEF, and aims to equip participants with essential digital tools for improved teacher record management, deployment, performance tracking, and policy compliance.

Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Edith Ebomoyi, commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for his administration’s commitment to digital reform in the education sector. She described TMIS as a vital innovation poised to enhance transparency, accountability, and evidence-based planning.

“This platform represents a game-changer for how we manage human resources within our education system,” Mrs. Ebomoyi noted.

The TMIS platform integrates biometric verification, geo-tagged school data, and real-time analytics, offering a comprehensive and efficient solution for managing education sector personnel records.

Facilitators from BBGNSURF Technologies Ltd, Auwal Abdulmumin and Ibrahim Hamisu, led participants through practical demonstrations and sessions on how to effectively navigate and deploy the platform’s features.

The Director of Planning and Research at the Ministry of Education, Mr. Gabriel Oriri, applauded the partnership with UNICEF and BBGNSURF, stating that Edo State is setting the pace for meaningful educational reform in Nigeria.

“With TMIS, we are not only digitising our systems but setting a new benchmark for education management in this country,” Oriri affirmed.

Participants at the workshop include ICT desk officers, school principals, zonal education heads, and other senior officials, who will serve as digital champions for the statewide rollout of the platform.

The TMIS initiative is expected to significantly improve teacher data integrity, policy formulation, and school accountability mechanisms, all in alignment with Governor Okpebholo’s broader digital transformation agenda for Edo’s education sector.

The Ministry further reaffirmed its commitment to continuous digital capacity building and inclusivity, ensuring no school or teacher is left behind as Edo embraces a 21st-century education management system.
