The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man, Theophilus Osazuwa, for allegedly killing his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa. According to the police, Osazuwa was suspected to have committed the act while under the influence of hard drugs.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 12:30 p.m. at Osazuwa’s apartment in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road in Benin City. The police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, stated that Osazuwa had just returned home when he suddenly fell into a trance and started screaming “Holy Ghost fire.” While in the trance, he grabbed his four-year-old son and slammed him against the wall, resulting in the child’s death.
The child was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Preliminary investigation revealed that Osazuwa, who is known to consume illicit substances, must have acted under the influence of drugs.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Umoru Ozigi, has cautioned youths against the dangers of consuming illicit substances and drugs, emphasizing their harmful effects on health and the potential risks they pose to both their lives and the safety of others.
Osazuwa’s arrest has sparked concerns about the dangers of drug abuse and its potential consequences, particularly when it involves vulnerable individuals such as children. The police are currently investigating the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
