The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says the state’s political landscape is witnessing significant realignments as members of opposition parties continue to defect to the ruling party.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Barr. Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, the party said the recent defections reflect growing confidence in the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo and the policies of his administration.
According to the statement, the Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State and a factional Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, have recently left their respective parties to join the APC.
The APC described their decision as a sign of increasing recognition of the party as a platform for progressive governance in the state.
The statement noted that the defectors acknowledged the impact of the administration’s programmes anchored on the governor’s SHINE Agenda, which focuses on Security, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Agriculture, and Education, alongside youth and women empowerment.
The party further stated that the Okpebholo administration has, within the past 15 months, recorded notable progress in several sectors, including infrastructure development, security strengthening, agricultural development, and improvements in the education sector.
APC commended the defectors for what it described as their “courageous decision” to join the party, adding that their move reinforces the APC’s position as a platform committed to the development and welfare of Edo people.
The party also called on residents of the state to continue supporting the administration to sustain the state’s development efforts.
