The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the public that a woman known on social media as “Madam Oil Rice” has been charged and arraigned in court following her circulation of a false claim alleging she was kidnapped on Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City; rescued by police operatives, detained at Akpata Police Station, and released after paying ₦10,000 bail.
Our investigation revealed that the story was entirely fabricated. The suspect, 24‑year‑old Osarobo Omoyemen, admitted she staged the incident solely to generate online content and attract followers to her TikTok page. She even deleted a prior video in which an accomplice in the background encouraged viewers to follow her page.
This misleading content had the potential to incite hostility against the police and disrupt social peace in the stateThe suspect is now in custody following her arraignment on Thursday, 20 November 2025.
Efforts are underway to apprehend her accomplices and ensure they face the full weight of the law. This action serves as a deterrent to anyone intending to misuse social media to create panic or undermine public safety.
The Edo State Police Command strongly warns against the creation and circulation of false news capable of disturbing peace and security.
Members of the public are advised to verify information before sharing and avoid actions that mislead or undermine the work of security agencies.The Command remains committed to safeguarding the lives and stability of all Edo State residents.
