Edo Police Assure Calm After Protest at MOWAA Launch, Vow Continued Protection of Lives and Property

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed that normalcy has been restored following a protest earlier today, Sunday, 9th November 2025, at the planned launch of the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) in Benin City.

According to the Command, credible intelligence had been received regarding an attempt by aggrieved individuals to disrupt the event. In response, a strategic security deployment was swiftly executed to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, personally addressed the protesters at the scene, ensuring a peaceful resolution and calming tensions. The intervention allowed for the safe evacuation of expatriates and guests from the venue to their hotels without incident.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting all residents and visitors in the state. It also assured the public that engagements are ongoing with stakeholders to ensure that any grievances are handled through lawful and peaceful dialogue.

Citizens are encouraged to continue their lawful activities without fear, as the police remain on high alert with robust security measures in place across Edo State.
