• Edo Police Clamp Down on Criminal Elements, Achieve Significant Successes in Benin City

The Edo State Police Command has recorded notable operational successes across the Benin City metropolis within the past week, following sustained intelligence-led patrols, rapid response to distress calls, and proactive crime-fighting strategies under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc.

In the early hours of Saturday, 25th January 2026, at about 3:00 a.m., credible intelligence was received regarding repeated gunshots emanating from a residence along Erediuwawa Street, off Sapele Road, Benin City. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, operatives of Eagle Crack Unit led by CSP Ezekiel Ojeifo was deployed to the scene. Upon storming the area, the hoodlums fled and were given a hot chase until they arrested one of them named Emmanuel Omorodion ‘m’, aged 41 years and recovered from him one English-made double-barrel gun and one live cartridge.

Similarly, following actionable intelligence on cult-related criminal activities within Eyaen axis of Benin City, operatives of Intelligence Rapid Response Team moved against a suspected criminal gang alleged to be involved in kidnapping, extortion, cultism and other violent acts terrorizing residents.

The intelligence revealed that the group was holding a meeting at Ibojije Hotel, Eyaen. The IRT Team led by CSP Idaba Peter stormed the location and successfully arrested the alleged kingpin, Usifo Omojale ‘m’, along with five other suspects, Imafidon Jesurobo Frank ‘m’ 31years, Godstime Iliyoma ‘m’, 23years, Lukeman Itsagwode ‘m’ 38yesrs, Usifoh Omomgiade ‘m’, 31years, and Ibhafidon Omonkhegbe, ‘m’ 35years, all the suspects have confessed to being members of Aye confraternity cult and will be arraigned in court while Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire network.

In another operation on Thursday, 23rd January 2026, at about 2:40 a.m., operatives from Ugbor Division led by CSP Oliver Agu, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Network, responded promptly to a distress call reporting armed robbery at No.10 Uwadia Street, off Ogunmenyi Community, Benin City.

On arrival, the hoodlums fired at the Police while attempting to flee and were met with superior fire power untill one Gondas Innocent ’m’ sustained pallet injury and was arrested. Recovered from him were three machetes, one laptop, one Apple iPhone, a clipper and some clothing items.

Further on-the-spot interrogation led operatives to an uncompleted building used as a hideout, where an additional suspect Tasman Nanman ‘m’ was arrested as the rest took to flight.

The Edo State Police Command assures members of the public that investigations into all the incidents are ongoing, and all suspects will be diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Command also reiterates its commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-driven operations and robust collaboration with other security stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property across Benin City and the state at large.
