The Edo State Police Command has announced the successful release of Moritada Obhakhoboh, the Chief Imam of Uromi, who was freed by his abductors on 13th July 2025 following intense and sustained pressure mounted by police operatives.
The Chief Imam has since been reunited with his family and is reportedly in stable condition.
The abduction occurred on 7th July 2025 at Angle 80 area of Uromi and was officially reported to the Uromi Divisional Police Headquarters on 8th July 2025.
Upon receiving the report, the Command immediately activated a robust manhunt, deploying tactical teams and working in close collaboration with local vigilantes to track the perpetrators and secure the victim’s safe release.
Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, commended the courage and commitment of the operatives involved in the operation, assuring the public that no effort will be spared in identifying and arresting those behind the heinous crime.
The Police Command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible information to security agencies as efforts intensify to dismantle criminal networks threatening public safety.
