In a bid to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process, the Edo State Police Command has invited all candidates contesting for the House of Representatives and Senatorial seats in the forthcoming August 16, 2025, by-elections to participate in the signing of a Peace Accord. Political party chairmen of the respective parties fielding candidates in the polls have also been invited to the event.
According to the Command, the Peace Accord signing will take place on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 12:00 noon, at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters in Benin City. The agreement is designed to promote mutual respect among contestants, discourage acts of violence, and safeguard the principles of democratic engagement before, during, and after the elections.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, called on all invited parties to attend promptly, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring a level playing field for all political actors. He stressed that the success of the elections depends on the collective responsibility of stakeholders to adhere to the rules and maintain peace.
The Command further urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to shun violence, hate speech, vote buying, and any form of conduct that could undermine the credibility of the electoral process or threaten the peace and stability of the state. It emphasized that security agencies remain on alert to deal decisively with anyone who engages in acts capable of disrupting the polls.
