Traders, motorists and residents within the Ikpoba Hill and Ramat Park axis of Benin City have commended the Edo State Government for the ongoing construction of the Ikpoba Hill Flyover, the first flyover bridge in the state under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
They described the project as a significant boost to economic activities, traffic management and urban renewal in the area.
Speaking with journalists on the impact of the project, Mr Lawrence Agwanhima noted that the flyover would greatly enhance both the local economy and the aesthetic appeal of the environment.

“It will improve the economy of this environment and also improve the beauty of this place. Before now, movement here was very difficult, but this flyover is a good one. I urge the governor to continue the good work. God will bless him throughout his tenure,” he said.
Addressing concerns about possible misuse of spaces beneath the bridge, Agwanhima dismissed such fears, explaining that similar issues existed before the commencement of the project and should not be allowed to hinder meaningful development.
Also speaking, Mrs Ese Juliet expressed optimism that the flyover would bring lasting relief to the persistent traffic congestion experienced along the Ikpoba Hill axis, particularly during market days.
“There is always traffic on this road, especially on market days. We thank God that traffic will reduce after the bridge is completed. My advice to the government is to ensure timely completion and also expand the road so that congestion does not return,” she said.
A fresh chicken seller at Ramat Park, Master David Okhaishebor, a student of Army Day School, described the flyover as an innovative intervention that would ease movement and enhance business activities in the area.
“The flyover is good, and we thank the governor for this innovation. Traffic will reduce and cars, Keke and other vehicles will move smoothly. It will be better if the bridge is fenced so that homeless persons do not sleep under it and mess up the place,” he added.
Mr. Chijioke Akaru, who has operated a pharmacy at Ramat Park for over 30 years, also affirmed the positive economic impact of the project on Edo State.
“This flyover will improve the economy of Edo State and reduce the persistent go-slow at Ikpoba Hill. I thank the state government for this initiative. Having been here for more than 30 years, I know firsthand how traffic congestion has affected businesses,” he stated.
The Ikpoba Hill Flyover is a flagship infrastructural project of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration, designed to ease traffic congestion, boost economic activities and enhance the overall outlook of Benin City.
Residents remain hopeful that the timely completion of the project will further improve mobility and support sustainable development across Edo State.
