In a press release, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie, directed all facilities operating without appropriate registration certificates to visit the State Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues for registration and approval.

“It has come to the attention of the Edo State Government that many non-governmental institutions, organizations, and groups are operating within the State without relevant registration certificates. The government wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that the State Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues has been authorized to carry out the registration, supervision, and monitoring of the operations of Creches, Children/Orphanage Homes, Elderly/Aged Persons’ Homes, Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations and Community Based Organisation, especially those dealing with women and children.”

Osarodion Ogie reiterated that an enforcement team has been inaugurated by the state government to monitor the activities of all facilities. Instead of this, any organizations that default to be registered will be shut down.

In his words, he stated that: “In addition, Institutions, Organisations, and Groups are required to present their evidence of registration, proof of annual renewal and annual/yearly activities reports to the State Enforcement Team which has been put in place to monitor and shut down defaulting organizations.”

He thereby gave a deadline for the registration of all facilities. According to him, all facilities must be registered on or before 29th October 2021.

“Accordingly, all institutions, organizations, and groups in the aforementioned category are hereby given up till October 29, 2021, to ensure compliance with Government’s directive above.”
