Edo State Government will embark on a holistic campaign against Cultism, Cyber crime and Drug abuse to ensure that youths in the state are empowered and informed about the dangers of the vices.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Zubairu Dada Abubakar during a courtesy visit by the Youth Network on HIV/Aids Population and Development (NYNETHA) Edo State to his office in Benin City.
The Commissioner who also noted that it is crucial that the youths are able to participate actively in the democratic processes as the 2024 elections approach, said the government is concerned about the prevalence of Drug abuse, Cyber crime and Cultism amongst youths in the state.
“We have a programme in December on drug abuse, Cyber crime and Cultism . Many youths need rehabilitation and counselling and we must encourage them with the necessary information that they need,” he noted.
In another development, the Muslim Congress led by Alhaji Ismail Mutairu expressed appreciation to Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and the Commissioner for Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Zubairu Dada Abubakar for the relief materials distributed to the Muslim community recently.
According to the leadership of the Muslim Congress during a courtesy visit to Hon. Zubairu Abubakar in his office, the Muslim community is very happy with the appointment of the Commissioner because the governor has put a round peg in a round hole.
“The relief materials we received have been well distributed and if others have been doing what you are doing, everybody will feel the impact of the government and thereby reduce social vices . If there is poverty, people resort to crime.
“With the level of support and what was given to us we are seeing the difference. The level of collaboration should continue and we want to see leaders who are there for the people and we promise to partner with the government to build a robust relationship,” the Muslim Congress, a faith based organization with artisans and professionals added.
