People with disabilities and inmates of 13 mental retardation rehabilitation centers have received cows and food from the Kano State Government.
Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf said during the distribution that the recipients were chosen from 13 mental retardation rehabilitation centers and five emirate councils.
The governor, who was represented by Dr. Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government, said the gesture was done every year to host PLWDs and make sure they didn’t feel alone during the celebration.
Rice, cows, rams, vegetable oil, and cash to help them buy firewood and condiments were among the items given to them.
The Emirs of the Deaf, Blind, Physically Challenged, and Lepers, along with their chiefs from the five emirates of Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Rano, and Gaya, were among the beneficiaries.
Others were, among other things, chairmen and secretaries of associations for people with albinism, blindness, and spinal cord injuries.
According to him, the 13 rehabilitation centers for the mentally retarded include Dawakin Kudu, Gaya, Dorayi, Bichi, Danbatta, Minjibir, Wudil, Sumaila, Tudun Wada, Rano, Karaye, and Shahuci at the Osogbo Eid praying ground.
Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency, commended the governor for the act.
He advised residents to clear the drainages in front of their homes to prevent flooding.
