Eid Message: Okpebholo Commits to Safer, Prosperous Edo Through SHINE Agenda

Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that his administration will drive sustainable development across critical sectors through the SHINE Agenda to enhance growth and improve the overall well-being of the people.

The governor gave the assurance while receiving Muslim faithful at Government House, Benin City, during a Sallah homage visit.

Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of all residents, urging citizens to support efforts to combat insecurity by remaining vigilant.

He noted that Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a sacred period devoted to fasting, spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and renewal, adding that the celebration embodies the enduring values of peace, compassion, love, and unity.

“The Edo State Government recognizes the importance of this occasion and the ideals it represents. As we celebrate, let us embrace unity, forgiveness, and gratitude, and continue to foster peaceful coexistence across our communities,” he said.

The governor emphasized that his administration remains resolute in ensuring a safer and more prosperous Edo State.
“I urge every citizen to support the campaign against insecurity by remaining vigilant—if you see something, say something. Together, we can overcome our challenges and build a stronger state.

“Through the SHINE Agenda, this government is committed to driving sustainable development, particularly in critical sectors and infrastructure, for the benefit of all Edo people,” he added.
He also extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslim faithful, wishing them peace, happiness, and abundant blessings.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor Esq., commended the prevailing religious harmony in Edo State and urged residents to continue supporting the government’s development efforts.

Ikhilor described Ramadan as a period of spiritual renewal, calling on citizens to uphold values of love, charity, and compassion, especially towards the less privileged.

He noted that both Ramadan and the Christian fasting season commenced on February 18, 2026, describing it as a symbol of unity and an opportunity for collective faith-building.

Earlier, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul-Fatai Enabulele, commended the Okpebholo administration for its developmental strides, particularly in road infrastructure.

He acknowledged improvements in road networks across the state and urged the government to sustain the momentum to ensure citizens continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The cleric also called on individuals involved in criminal activities such as terrorism, kidnapping, robbery, and sexual violence to desist, stressing that national development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.

He further appealed to the government to address key challenges affecting residents, including electricity supply, security, environmental sanitation, and the conduct of commercial drivers in the state.
