Enugu Man Remanded for Alleged Murder and Robbery of Scrap Scavenger

A 30-year-old man, Tsehemba Joshua, has been remanded in custody in Enugu State over charges of armed robbery and murder involving a 19-year-old scrap scavenger named Yusuf Ibrahim.

According to a statement from the Enugu State Police, Joshua allegedly conspired with two accomplices, who remain at large, to rob and strangle the young scavenger. Authorities report that Joshua lured Ibrahim under the pretense of selling a scrap vehicle part, then robbed him of N100,000 before strangling him and burying his body in a shallow grave on October 2, 2024.

The shallow grave was discovered in a bush at Ojo River, located in the Obollo Community of Udenu Local Government Area. Following a community alert, officers from the Udenu Police Division responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect. Joshua later confessed to the crime, leading to further investigation by the State CID’s Campus Monitoring and Anti-Cultism Section.

Following his court appearance, Joshua was remanded to the Enugu Maximum Correctional Custodial Centre, pending additional court proceedings.
