“Ex-Agege LG Chairman Ganiyu Egunjobi Declares House of Reps Bid, Donates N19.5m to APC Wards”
Former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria’s House of Representatives. As part of his campaign launch, Egunjobi reportedly contributed N19.5 million to local All Progressives Congress (APC) ward offices across the constituency.
The donation, according to sources close to the campaign, is intended to support grassroots political engagement and strengthen the party’s local structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Party members in Agege received the contribution during a series of meetings organized to introduce Egunjobi’s candidacy to stakeholders and community leaders.
Egunjobi, who previously served as chairman of one of Lagos State’s most populous local governments, emphasized his commitment to constituency development, promising to leverage his legislative experience for infrastructural growth, educational advancement, and social welfare initiatives. Analysts suggest that his prior political leadership and strong local networks could give him an advantage in securing the APC nomination.
Political observers note that Nigeria’s electoral process increasingly sees aspirants making significant contributions to local party structures, a trend that blends political strategy with constituency outreach. While such donations are legal within party regulations, public discourse often raises questions about campaign financing ethics and transparency.
Egunjobi’s declaration adds momentum to an already competitive political landscape in Lagos, where multiple aspirants are positioning themselves for the forthcoming elections. The Agege Federal Constituency, known for its vibrant electorate and dynamic political scene, will likely witness intense campaigning as the 2027 polls approach.
