Export: Edo To Become A Packaging Hub – PS

Edo State Ministry of Business, Trade and Cooperatives has put in motion plans to make the state a packaging hub for Edo made products to increase the revenue profile of the state.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Business, Trade and Cooperatives, Barr. Felicia Edokpolor during the first quarterly meeting of Edo State Committee on Export Promotion (SCEP) in Benin City.

According to the Permanent Secretary who is the Chairman of SCEP,  the ministry is seeking to have a bar-code that will authenticate if the sticker on the Edo made products are fake or not.

“The Ministry has held meetings with stakeholders, such as super market owners that will display such products on their shelf. We are really working towards having our own packaging hub for our products to be exported to other parts of the world.

“The Ministry is going to Lagos to understudy their industry and bring what we see there to Edo State because I understand that it is only Lagos state that has a packaging hub.

“Edo state will then be the number two state with a packaging hub and neighbouring states will come to the state instead of going to Lagos to package their finished goods and this will bring revenue to the state,” she noted.

During the meeting which was well attended by  members of SCEP,  it was disclosed that the Ministry is making efforts to ensure that made in  proudly Edo products are visible to the world not only through trade fairs and exhibitions,  but to organize  Edo fair where all Edo Products will be on display in collaboration between the private sector and the public sector because Edo is blessed with good soil and  enabling environment.

The members of the Edo State Committee on Export Promotion were enlightened on the Export procedures and documentation and Export policy and incentives.
