Faith, Unity and Celebration: Okpebholo Leads Edo’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

In a night rich with worship, reflection, and festive warmth, Edo State came alive as Governor Monday Okpebholo led residents at the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, held at the iconic Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Benin City. The event formed a major highlight of activities marking the 2025 yuletide season in the state.

Hosted by the Edo State Government, the festival drew a diverse gathering of residents, clergy, community leaders, and top government officials. As carols echoed through the hall and scripture lessons were read, the atmosphere blended solemn devotion with joyful celebration—capturing the true spirit of Christmas.

Governor Okpebholo personally delivered one of the lessons, drawn from Psalm 9:3–7, reflecting on God’s faithfulness, justice, and righteousness. His message resonated deeply with the audience as he encouraged Edo people to place their trust in God while remaining united in purpose, cooperation, and service to the state.

Beyond the spiritual reflections, the Governor used the occasion to reassure citizens of the safety and stability of Edo State. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, inclusive governance, and the protection of lives and property, stressing that security remains a cornerstone of sustainable development. According to him, the Christmas season is a timely reminder of shared responsibility, renewed hope, and collective effort toward building a stronger and more harmonious Edo State.

Adding a heartfelt perspective, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani, described Christmas as a season defined by love, generosity, and selfless service. She urged citizens to embody these values in their daily interactions, noting that peaceful coexistence and social harmony are essential to community growth.

Musical performances by choristers from churches across Edo State formed the soul of the evening. Their powerful and melodious renditions lifted spirits and created moments of quiet reflection and joyful praise, earning sustained applause from the audience.

The celebration also carried a lighter, festive touch with a raffle draw that rewarded several attendees with exciting prizes, adding colour and excitement to the night’s proceedings.

By the close of the event, the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols had firmly established itself not just as a ceremonial gathering but as a meaningful expression of faith, unity, and shared identity. It stood as a fitting prelude to the Christmas celebrations in Edo State—one that echoed Governor Okpebholo’s message of peace, hope, and togetherness.
