The Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, CFR, was inaugurated and honoured by the federal government as the 4th Chancellor of Bayero University in Kano State, which is located in the northwestern part of Nigeria.
At the 36th and 37th combined Convocation Ceremony of the University in Kano, a total of 16,581 students were awarded various degrees. The installation was performed by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented at the event by Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Buhari said that the University is very fortunate to have the experienced Diplomat serving as its Chancellor, and he gave his assurance that the Oba would make full use of his vast store of expertise in carrying out his responsibilities.
Congratulating the Oba on the twin honour of being named Chancellor and being awarded a Doctor of Law degree (Honoris Causa by the University, in successive order, Buhari said that he has no doubt that the monarch is worthy of his calling, noting that the 46-year-old University will attain greater heights in the years to come. The Oba was awarded the honours in successive order.
In addition, the individual who was at the university made a promise to address the provision of a perimeter fence within the university and made an appeal to the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, to mediate the conflict that has arisen between the University and the communities that are located nearby because of land encroachment.
After the citation of the Oba was read, both the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, and the Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Senator Udo Udoma, made separate remarks in which they outlined the prospects, challenges, and breakthroughs that have been recorded by the institution. These remarks came after reading the citation of the Oba.
During the course of his presentation, the Monarch of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, CFR, reaffirmed his dedication to the improvement of the educational opportunities, research opportunities, and scholarly endeavours available at the institution.
He expressed gratitude to President Buhari for the appointment, and he made a commitment to work towards the goal of attracting initiatives that would enhance the institution’s financial situation.
