The Federal Government and development partners have reaffirmed their commitment to increasing investment in Africa’s creative industry, with calls for the continent’s artistic and cultural talents to generate greater economic opportunities, employment and global competitiveness.
The commitment was made at the opening of Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) 2026 in Lagos, where African leaders and industry stakeholders stressed the need to transform the continent’s creative potential into sustainable economic wealth.
The discussions focused on addressing longstanding challenges facing the creative sector, particularly limited access to finance, inadequate infrastructure and difficulties accessing international markets.
Participants emphasised that Africa’s creative economy must move beyond recognition of its talents to become a major driver of job creation, entrepreneurship, investment and economic growth.
A report indicated that deals already signed at the event were valued at approximately $105 million, highlighting the growing commercial opportunities within the continent’s creative industries.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to supporting the development of a thriving creative economy through increased investment, stronger partnerships and initiatives designed to strengthen the industry.
CANEX WKND brings together creative professionals, investors, policymakers and development partners to explore opportunities for collaboration, business expansion and the international promotion of African creativity.
The event also provides a platform for African creative entrepreneurs to connect with potential investors, develop partnerships and explore new markets.
The renewed commitment from the government and development partners reflects growing recognition of the creative sector as an important component of Africa’s economic development, with the potential to create jobs, attract investment and strengthen the continent’s global cultural influence.
As discussions continue, stakeholders are expected to focus on translating commitments and signed agreements into practical opportunities for creative businesses and professionals across Africa.
