First Lady Announces ₦1 Billion Relief Fund for Benue Attack Victims

‎‎Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday announced a ₦1 billion donation through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to support victims displaced by the recent suspected herders’ attack in Yelewata, Benue State.

‎Speaking during a condolence visit to the state at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House, Mrs. Tinubu said the donation is aimed at helping affected families rebuild their lives and restore their livelihoods.

‎ “On behalf of the governing council of the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI will be making a donation of ₦1 billion to help displaced families get back on their feet, return to earning a living, and have a better life,” she declared.

‎The Yelewata attack, which occurred in June 2025, claimed over 100 lives, leaving hundreds homeless and traumatized.

‎Mrs. Tinubu, visibly moved, expressed deep sorrow over the killings and urged collective strength during the country’s trying times.

‎ “It is heart-wrenching to believe that people want to live in peace, then destruction comes suddenly,” she said.

‎“As a mother, I urge all of us to learn to accept these times as very challenging. Our job is to play complementary and supportive roles.”

‎She concluded by reaffirming that hope is not lost, noting that both she and her counterpart from Nasarawa State had listened to the people’s cries.
